Pre-Employment Assessment

We cover all areas of Pre-placement medical assessment concerning occupational health

Pre employment medical assessment is essential to ensure that there is a good employee/job fit i.e. that the person is fit to carry out the role safely, effectively and regularly. It ensures that any necessary adjustments or restrictions can be considered prior to employment.

It is often possible to modify jobs to accommodate someone if there is a medical problem or disability. For certain roles there may be a statutory requirement for medical assessment. E.g. food- handlers, drivers, and divers. And Baseline measurements may be taken at the pre-employment stage.

Pre employment medical assessment can be completed in a variety of ways. Normally it is completed by the use of paper questionnaire screening where the candidate can be assessed without the need for a consultation. Sometimes the candidate is contacted for further information or they may be referred for a face-to-face consultation with the Occupational Health Advisor or Occupational Health Physician. Further information may also be sought from the candidates General Practitioner or Specialist.

Finally a report on fitness to work is issued as well as advice on any possible adjustments or restrictions that might be considered to ensure that the employee is safe and able to carry out the role required.

The facility to carry out this whole process on line is soon to become available to clients of Business Health Resources
